Life before and after clean water? The two experiences couldn’t be more different. Click on each story to see clean water’s impact for yourself.
With access to clean water, Mary suddenly had access to more time. She used it to start growing sesame seeds, then used the income to buy a goat. She plans to expand her herd and is also, casually, building an entire new home for her family.

Richard’s community in northern Uganda was once a rural home to hundreds. But over the past 12 years, thanks to the steady flow of clean water, it has transformed into a bustling center of commerce.

Access to clean water also means improvements to sanitation and hygiene. For Fungai, that meant being the first person in her community to build a toilet — and inspiring her community to follow her lead.
“People talk about what is happening here. Whenever people gather, we say, ‘This is the awesome activity happening in our community.’ We spread the gospel of sanitation and hygiene.”

For Sarmila, less time spent collecting water meant more time for school, an essential pathway to her dream of becoming a teacher. She’s currently studying in a city several hours away, but she doesn’t plan to stay there. Her goal has always been to return home and empower the next generation of students.
“I would tell younger girls that you have to study hard because there’s nothing greater than education. If we work hard, we’ll definitely secure a bright future.”
